چکیده

A new boundary integral formulation of the second kind for exterior Stokes flow is introduced. The formulation is stable, complete, singularity-free, and natural for bodies of complicated shape and topology. We prove an existence and uniqueness result for the formulation for arbitrary flows and illustrate its performance via several numerical examples using a Nyström method with Gauss–Legendre quadrature rules of different order.

Convergence and conditioning of a Nyström method for Stokes flow in exterior three-dimensional domains

Convergence and conditioning results are presented for the lowest-order member of a family of Nyström methods for arbitrary, exterior, three-dimensional Stokes flow. The flow problem is formulated in terms of a recently introduced two-parameter, weakly singular boundary integral equation of the second kind. In contrast to methods based on product integration, coordinate transformation and singu...

Boundary temperature reconstruction in an inverse heat conduction problem using boundary integral equation method

‎In this paper‎, ‎we consider an inverse boundary value problem for two-dimensional heat equation in an annular domain‎. ‎This problem consists of determining the temperature on the interior boundary curve from the Cauchy data (boundary temperature and heat flux) on the exterior boundary curve‎. ‎To this end‎, ‎the boundary integral equation method is used‎. ‎Since the resulting system of linea...

A comparative study between two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations

The present study aimed to investigate two numerical solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations. For this purpose, the mentioned flow equations were written in two different formulations, namely (i) velocity-pressure and (ii) vorticity-stream function formulations. Solution algorithms and boundary conditions were presented for both formulations and the efficiency of each formulation was investiga...

The Single-Layer Potential Associated with the Time-dependent Oseen System

We consider a boundary value problem for the time-dependent Oseen system in a 3D exterior domain. This problem is reduced to an integral equation for the single-layer potential related to the that system. This integral equation, in turn, is solved by applying a result by Shen [11] pertaining to the evolutionary Stokes system. Since it automatically leads to an integral representation of the sol...

Accurate computation of Galerkin double surface integrals in the 3-D boundary element method

Many boundary element integral equation kernels are based on the Green’s functions of the Laplace and Helmholtz equations in three dimensions. These include, for example, the Laplace, Helmholtz, elasticity, Stokes, and Maxwell’s equations. Integral equation formulations lead to more compact, but dense linear systems. These dense systems are often solved iteratively via Krylov subspace methods, ...
